April 2022: Margaret Stocking

Our April volunteer of the month, Margaret Stocking, first heard about Stride Ahead through a Next Door posting and we’re so glad she did. Her confidence in working with the horses comes from growing up on a farm surrounded by lots of animals which she says was a gift just as Stride Ahead is a gift to our community. Even with all that experience Margaret says she learns something every single day she volunteers.
When asked to give us a memory or experience that has impacted her, Margaret says that seeing twinkling eyes and the hint of a smile on the face of a child with communication challenges is her best experience.
Margaret’s quiet and calm manner make each session she’s a part of all the better for both the horses and riders. She intuitively knows how to read each situation, engage all participants, and help the instructor accomplish the session goals.
Stride Ahead has over two hundred volunteers on record. Margaret is a volunteer that we can count on to give freely of her time and show up ready to enjoy being with the horses and riders. We appreciate her weekly commitment to Stride Ahead and our mission to empower people in need through equine therapy programs.
