Our Programs
Each of Stride Ahead’s programs provides integrated care in the form of physical and emotional support. With programs tailored to suit the needs of veterans returning from combat to at-risk youth to individuals suffering from spinal cord injuries, our work is designed to address a broad range of issues and circumstances.
Therapeutic Riding
Therapeutic Riding improves strength, balance, flexibility, body awareness, motor coordination, communication, social interaction, and self-confidence in an environment that is both stimulating and supportive. Each weekly lesson includes time on the horse and time with the horse, to facilitate a partnership that is compassionate, respectful, and restorative.
Veterans Program
Our Veterans Program supports the men and women who have served our country by helping them heal combat-related injuries and emotional trauma. By collaborating with the horses, licensed therapists, and trained equine specialists, these men and women are able to resolve some of the barriers to a happier, more fulfilled life.
Equine Assisted Learning (EAL)
Equine Assisted Learning (EAL) is an experiential approach that develops life skills in individuals of all ages and abilities. It combines character building exercises with personal coaching to measurably improve a wide range of social and academic skills.
Equine Assisted Psychotherapy (EAP)
In EAP, licensed mental health professionals work with certified equine specialists to assist clients recovering from PTSD, substance abuse, trauma, depression, and other psychological issues. Therapy horses bring emotional relief and insights to veterans, at-risk youth, recovering addicts, women escaping from sex trafficking, and others, helping them to grow in a safe, respectful environment.
Stress Relief Program
The Stress Relief program began during the pandemic as a way to help front line workers, first responders, veterans, and teachers cope with the enormous stresses they were under. We have since found that these sessions are incredibly helpful for anyone dealing with stress. They offer individuals an opportunity to unwind and relax with our horses accompanied by an equine specialist and mental health professional.
