August 2022: Jack Lyon
Jack Lyon
Stride Ahead is very happy to present
our first Rider of the Month,
Jack Lyon.
Jack was one of Stride Ahead’s first riders at the tender age of six. He says that when he started riding, he was afraid of animals, especially dogs. Given this fear, his parents were worried it might take weeks for him to even get near a horse. But to everyone’s surprise and delight, he got on the horse the very first day and his fear of animals quickly faded.
Because Jack is on the autism spectrum, he reports that team sports were never really an option, but riding has given him a sport and hobby that has taught him so much. His barn “family” has been better than any sports team for teaching him teamwork and perseverance.
In Jack’s opinion the best part about riding with Stride Ahead is the horses, of course! He feels comfortable and happy around them and loves all the horses he has ridden, but his favorites are Jake, Nash, Zan and Al. His instructor, our Program Director Pam Smith, tells us Jack can lead, groom and tack up his own horse and rides faithfully every week on his horse, Nash, who looks forward to Jack’s lessons.
Jack is a recent honors graduate of Lakeside High School. He will be attending a local college prep school this coming fall and hopes to attend college next year. In his free time he enjoys puzzles, reading and playing with his dog, Pippa.
Thank you, Jack, for all you bring to Stride Ahead! We are so happy to have you as one of our valued riders.
Thank you, Jack!
If you would like to make a donation in honor of Jack and all of our wonderful riders who make Stride happen, thank you.
